Congress to make clean sweep in Punjab: Shakeel Ahmed

Batala/Gurdaspur: The AICC General Secretary and incharge of Punjab affairs, Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, today asserted that his party would make a clean sweep in Punjab winning all the 13 seats. Dr. Ahmed, who joined the road show in Batala today in support of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President, Mr. Partap Singh Bajwa alongwith Ashwani Sekhri, who is seeking re-election from Gurdaspur, said the people in the country including Punjab were determined to crush the regressive and divisive forces whose real face already stood exposed. He said in Punjab, the situation was the worst as jungle law prevailed and the police stations were under the control of the Akali goons. It was a mafia raj in the state which had monopolised sand, gravel, liquor and private transport. He said the slogan of providing transparent governance had proved to be hollowed as corruption had only multiplied under the Akali Dal-BJP regime. He said both the Chief Minister, Mr. Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, had been claiming from the house top about hyperbolic development in the state. However, grassroots reality was diametrically opposite as the cities were sinking and the roads were potholed, making the life of the people miserable. In the countryside, link roads were missing. Whatever development was visible by way of improvement of highways was due to central funding. He said it was ironic that the Badal government had been alleging discrimination by the centre in the allocation of funds while the fact was that the state government had failed to utilise or avail of the central funding. He said the people in the state would not forgive this government and teach a lesson to the Akali Dal-BJP alliance.
Modi failed to create even a ripple in Punjab: Bajwa
Fatehgarh Churian/Gurdaspur: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President, Mr. Partap Singh Bajwa, today said the much hyped whirlwind tour of the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Mr. Narendra Modi, yesterday failed to create even a ripple in Punjab where the people were filled up anger against the autocratic, degenerated and corrupt rule of the Akali Dal-BJP government headed by the Chief Minister, Mr. Parkash Singh Badal. He said the gathering at Pathankot where Mr. Modi addressed his first rally was too thin which betrayed the real situation of Mr. Vinod Khanna who has been fielded by the BJP candidate from Gurdaspur, the constituency he represented thrice earlier. Mr. Bajwa, who is seeking re-election from Gurdaspur, said if a person who had been MP from this constituency thrice failed to gather even a few thousand people, one could visualise the result of May 16 even today. He predicted a humiliating defeat for Mr. Khanna. He said the situation at Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana was no different. Mr. Bajwa said empty chairs could also be seen at the Bathinda rally which was the fiefdom of the ruling Badal family from where Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, wife of the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, was seeking re-election. He said Bathinda was one constituency where the people had taken to the streets against the Akali Dal candidate, such was her unpopularity. He said even the hired crowd was unresponsive. He said the one constituency to which entire state resources had been diverted was Bathinda. The PPCC chief said Mr. Modi perhaps could never have thought that the people would not even sit to listen to him at Amritsar. He said as Mr. Modi got up to address the rally, the people started leaving. He said the BJP’s porime ministerial candidate had nothing new to offer and did not said a word about opening up of border with Pakistan to facilitate free trade. He said access for the Punjab products to the Central Asian markets was the best hope for the revival of the economy of this land-locked border state which had been the victim of mismanagement and the bankrupt policies of the Badal government. “The only solution Mr. Modi offered to Punjab at Bathinda was value addition. He does not need to teach Badals in this regard. The Badal family has multiplied its wealth from its moderate farm to thousands of times during the last few years. This multiplication has always taken place when this family has come into power. However, they would not share this secret to revive the sick economy of Punjab. The day is not far off when even the state transport would be replaced by the Badal transport”, he added. Mr. Bajwa asserted the so called Modi wave was just a hype created through lies and utter lies and going by the Punjab experience, it had already peaked. The people had realised the danger to the idea of India itself in case such divisive forces captured power. He said Mr. Modi was the last hope of Mr. Khanna as he could not depend much on the Akali Dal alliance partner who had already realised the gravity of the situation. Moreover, Mr. Khanna was far removed from the social reality of this region due to his long disconnect. He said the Congress was the only party which was pan-India in character with a long history. It was not just a party but a movement whereas the BJP just did not exist in a number of states and as such, was not even in a position to represent the entire country, what to talk of forming the government at the centre. S Bajwa was campaigning in Fatehgarh Churian constituency today alongwith S. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa MLA and Roshan Josheph.
